S.O.A.P. Groups

S.O.A.P. Groups are a way to build close, tight relationships with other people as you learn together how to read and apply the teachings of the Bible in your life. You’ll laugh together and grow together, supporting and encouraging one another along the way.

We use a common study method that goes by the acronym S.O.A.P. Below you’ll find an explanation of the S.O.A.P. method.

The S.O.A.P. Method

Before you begin…

Get a notebook, pen, and a Bible. Locate the passages you will read from the reading plan. Thank God for revealing Himself to us. Ask God to make the scriptures come alive as you read them. Ask God to speak to your directly for your encouragement, direction and correction. Then read patiently and thoughtfully.

S - Scripture

Read today’s passages. (See reading plan below) When you are done, write down the verse (or two) that stood out to you the most.

O - Observation

Write down your observations about that scripture - What caught your attention in that verse/passage? What do you “see” in the scripture passage - is it encouragement, direction, correction? What is the lesson or truth that God is revealing to you in that passage?

A - Application

Write down how you can personally apply that scripture - What is the Holy Spirit saying to you about what you’ve observed? How is He challenging and/or encouraging you? What do you need to do differently in light of the truth or lesson God is revealing in the scripture?

P - Prayer

Write out a short prayer to God about what you have heard and received from His Word today. Thank Him for speaking and revealing Himself to you. Ask for His wisdom and guidance in applying what He has shown you.
